The Cognard Family, Organic Winemakers in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil
A 15-hectare vineyard spanning the Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations, certified organic since 2020.
A family-owned estate since 1973
The family estate was founded by Lydie and Max Cognard in 1973, with 1 hectare of vineyards donated by Simone and Bernard Taluau (Lydie’s parents). Their children, Estelle and Rodolphe, took over the estate in 2013, though they had already joined the business in 1997 and 2001, respectively.
Over the years, the business has grown and expanded. Rodolphe passed away in 2018 after a illness. Estelle continues to run the vineyard on her own.
Today, the estate has 15 hectares of vineyards in the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and Bourgueil AOPs. Only one grape variety is grown here: Cabernet Franc.
An organic vineyard in the Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil AOP regions
In 2015, we began working our soil to allow our lovely Cabernet Franc to take root in the terroirs of Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. As a natural next step, we began our transition to organic farming. In 2020, the vineyard was officially certified.
